Laser Cutting Services Then and Now

February 04, 2021

Over the last few decades, laser cutting has progressively become a staple processing and manufacturing method used in many industrial sectors, from construction to art and design. The earliest use of laser cutting can be dated back to 1965 when lasers were used as experimental drilling tool alternatives to metal drills. Today, laser cutting services are provided by many industrial businesses. These services provide businesses the options of laser marking, drilling, engraving, and of course laser cutting.

Not only is it used to cut metal, but it is also used for acrylic, wood, paper, cardboard, textile, ceramic, and much more.

Back in the ‘60s, laser cutting services were popularized and adopted in various industries. The cutting technology was then heavily used in diamond mining in 1965 and then it was extensively used on a much wider scope by the British. Since that time, manufacturers of laser cutter machines and service providers have grown rapidly.

It was by the 1970s when laser cutting was applied in the aerospace industry. At the same time, laser cutting utilized gas lasers to cut through various materials. In the ensuing decade, a lot of laser cutting machines have been applied by most fabrication shops around the world. Hence, with the invention of lasers, a new industrial revolution was born.

The most recent laser technology used in laser cutting today is a fibre laser. It is quite a recent piece of technology with its first development dated back around 2008. It is perceived as the best type of laser cutting developed. Since its first use, it has been increasingly adopted by many companies and industries. After this, laser cutting has found its way to more extensive applications around the world, from manufacturing electronics and semiconductors to medical and surgical operations.
